What Would I Do If I Was 16 Again?

Walk with me for a second. Consider the possibility that you can go back to when you were 16 years old (or go younger if you're not 16 yet). And you have all the knowledge you have today. What would you do instead? This is the question I found myself asking yesterday. I wondered, what would I do with my current knowledge in my teenage body. It's not good to live in the past. But you can always analyze and learn from it so you get better next time.

What Would I Do?

1. FOCUS on Purpose

Focus, focus, FOCUS.

That's the 1st thing I would do.

I'd ask myself, what do I want to do?

And then I would work at it everyday to bring it to reality.

No matter how ridiculous or unrealistic.

What you must understand is that everything is unrealistic before it happens.

Everything you see came from the mind of someone.

Meaning, they had a mental blueprint and then used actions to bring it to reality.

So for me I would focus on TWO things:

  1. Football

  2. YouTube

I would focus on football since I play it now.

I would make sure to get as fast, strong, and explosive as possible.

Train daily to be the best I can be.

On top of that I would post YouTube videos.

At least a couple times per week.

And I would do this everyday, even if it's not perfect.

What I've learned is that as long as you put in work to the best of your ability, you will progress.

Combine that with the power and time of youth, and I'd be unstoppable.

Think about it for a second.

In high school you got 7 hrs of school.

1-2 hrs of homework.

If I dedicated 3 hrs to Football and YouTube CONSISTENTLY, I'd still have time to be young and have fun.

AND I would be further along on my journey...

The Power of Youth is real.

2. Athleticism

If I was 16 years old, I would work on becoming a freakish athlete.

When you are young you have energy, time, elasticity, and a whole other hosts of advantages.

If I had dedicated my time to getting fast, explosive and strong I would be the next Michael Jordan.

GUARANTEED.

But instead I let the media control me.

I focused on weight lifting and "getting big" as if that would actually get me results and make me more athletic.

What I've learned is that athleticism is much more useful.

It allows you to compete, look good, be strong, and attract a mate.

Weight lifting is fine to get strong with, but it shouldn't be the focus of training while young.

When you hit 25 years old you get a man strength boost anyways.

No need to stress about it when you're young... you're in this game for life.

So if I was 16 again I'd focus on athleticism.

I'd run sprints, jump high, and put more emphasis on being athletic.

This would help me get recruited out of high school AND be in a much better position in college.

But alas, I can dream…

Or I can change my future today.

3. Healthy Habits

Next of course is healthy habits:

  • Consistent meditation

  • Consistent healthy eating

  • Consistent sleep schedule

It's these "small" habits that make all the difference.

They allow you to have routine and stability in your life.

They ground you in reality and always give you basics to fall back on.

With meditation you become present and lower anxiety which helps in every aspect of life.

Healthy eating not only allows you look, feel, and perform good.

But it also eliminates injury AND illness.

And a consistent sleep schedule will give you all the energy in the world that you need.

The issue with most of these habits is you won't see the benefits for weeks or even months.

And you won't notice the benefits until you STOP doing them.

When you stop meditating you'll notice that you're more anxious and worried.

When you eat unhealthy you'll notice that you feel slow and lethargic.

Most of these habits aren't recognized and valued until you don't have them.

So don't let it get to that.

Perform them today, reap the rewards tomorrow.

4. Give 0 Fucks

This one is the most important.

I would give 0 fucks…

About shit that doesn’t matter.

You don't gain anything from giving a fuck about little stuff.

This includes:

  • Caring what others think

  • Getting caught up in drama

  • Being scared to do something

When you care what others think you are limiting yourself.

You are stopping your core desires all to please some random person.

What I wish I had understood is that no one cares.

Humans are selfish.

Humans only care about themselves.

But not in a bad way...

It's human nature.

You gotta look out for #1 which is yourself.

Remember, people aren't paying attention to you, they're too busy focusing on themselves.

So I'd go talk to that shawty.

I'd dance like no ones watching.

I would go out and try for the team.

I would do anything I want (as long as I cause no harm).

At the end of the day.

It is what it is.

And it doesn't matter.

In the grand scheme of things you came here alone and will die alone.

People will forget about you 100 years after you die unless you do great things.

And even then you'll only be a vague historical figure.

So go forth and do what you want and give ZERO fucks.

It does not matter.

Moral Of The Story

If I went back to 2018 and I was 16 again I would:

  1. Focus on Purpose

  2. Train for Athleticism

  3. Develop healthy habits

  4. Give 0 fucks

And as I was writing this, I realized it's still not too late.

I'm not gonna try to live the life of a high schooler (that's loser shit).

But I can still focus on my purpose, train my athleticism, develop healthy habits, and give 0 fucks today.

I am older and I have this knowledge so I will use it.

End of the day we can analyze the past and say what we would have or could have done instead.

But it DOESN'T MATTER.

We can't change the past.

All we can do is change our futures.

And we do that by living in today, taking the right actions, and staying focused.

It's never too late.

But you have to make the change...

Today.

Challenge Time

I challenge you to go do this for yourself after reading this.

Write down what you would do if you were a teenager again.

Be specific.

What habits would you adopt, how would you act, and what would you do?

Take your time to be specific and get into the details.

And when you have your answer.

Put it in place today.

Don't wait.

Live your truth today.

Today is all you have.
